Fall Tips Vegetable Garden

  1. Get a jump on the spring season  and prepare your garden, cleaning up and composting dead plants.
  2. Sow winter hardy plants such as spinach and lettuces and cover with clear plastic fitted over PVC arches, wooden cold frames, or raised beds covered with recycled windows.
  3. Plant garlic cloves, pointy end up around the third week of September, 1” deep and 3” apart. Mulch garden to keep springs emerging weeds to a minimum. Delight in spring as you dig up new bulbs – braid for decoration or store for spring and summer food preparation.
  4. Clean and store tools and organize all gardening equipment and materials.
  5. Mulch the garden with a nice layer of straw. This will keep the earthworms warm.
  6. Start to plan for spring and plan for what you love.
