Chores never stop!

In 2015, Agriculture, Front Page, June

I have been thinking about going fishing lately, even though the fish are not biting. As some like to say, “a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.”

The idea is to stay ahead of your chores. Here at the ranch we’re weeding the strawberry patch and working bone meal into the soil before the strawberry season comes on. Spending time in the garden pruning and tying up the tomatoes – tending all these magically growing crops. I like to get a 5 gallon bucket to sit on while I’m working in the garden. This makes it a lot easier on the back. Squat down and picking purple beans and the squash, before they become oversized. When you come in from the garden with a basket of groceries it is all worth the effort.

Mowing the lawn – I use to think the horse could do it. It is a yes and a no. He will eat for a while then he gets the “what’s over there” thought. I do picket my horse and that is a great way to fertilize while cutting the grass, but he really doesn’t do a great job. So I end up mowing it anyway and then I have to clean up after him since wet manure causes “problems”.

So yes it’s true that the chores never stop, but staying ahead of them makes it easier to keep up.
